The beginning

Topdental was formed as a small, family run business in 2001. Initially setup to directly supply the UK dental practices with a wide variety of different dental related products including infection control.

As the company grew, the focus gradually shifted toward the need for high quality infection control products within the dental sector and Topdental made the decision to launch our own brand of products. Initially using third party, outsourced formulation blending before investing in specialist equipment and staff to bring this process in house.

Do it yourself

In order to keep full control of the design and manufacturing process, Topdental had to start at the very beginning by developing our own product formulations. This enabled us to hand pick the raw materials that were most suitable for the products intended purpose and our industry. By designing products from scratch we could target specific areas, materials and diseases that are commonly used within dental and medical environments.

The range of products we developed features a full selection of disinfection and cleaning solutions to cover all requirements for the modern dental practice. Surface disinfectant sprays and wet wipes, instrument cleaners and disinfectants, dental impression disinfectants, suction/aspirator cleaning and disinfection products plus cleaners and sanitisers for hands.

Becoming a manufacturer

After initial success with our own Bossklein brand, Topdental offered a private label manufacturing service and to other healthcare companies. This enabled others to benefit from the experience and knowledge that Topdental had gained in relation to everything related to clinical hygiene. Soon products were being produced for all types of companies and clinical brands across the world.

The Topdental name is now established within the clinical infection control sector with a solid reputation as a high quality and reliable manufacturing partner. This has allowed for multiple years of both economic and reputational growth. Resulting in infection control products and manufacturing gradually overtaking the direct to end user supply business.

Topdental truly can cater to all needs from around the world. Working with both smaller and some of the largest dental/medical companies in both Europe and across the globe has given Topdental a well-respected position in the field of infection control.

A new chapter

As the company expansion progressed, Topdental enhanced its Quality Management System. Initial ISO 13485 accreditation was achieved more than 10 years ago in 2013 before moving on to the updated ISO13485:2016 rules and then to MDR (EU 2017/745). Demonstrating over a decade of strictly regulated manufacturing and providing medical devices that consistently meet customers’ expectations and regulatory requirements.

In 2015 Topdental became part of the Directa Dental Group of companies. This global group of dedicated dental companies contains more than 200 staff and focuses on developing a range of dental consumables, materials and electronics that make life easier for dentists and patients. The Directa Dental Group is part of the wider Swedish owned Lifco AB That contains more than 200 companies in over 30 different countries.

Focusing on our strengths

Topdental played a pivotal role during the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020. As a manufacturer of infection control products, the business was permitted to remain operational while many other industries closed. The demand for our products rose sharply and in order to keep up with demand Topdental moved to 24-hour operations. Our hard-working staff members worked around the clock to ensure surface and hand disinfection products were available for a variety of industries.

Topdental also donated hand disinfectant products to local businesses and schools to try and help ensure everyone remained safe. As demand reduced back towards pre pandemic levels our operations had to follow suit.

In late 2022 the Bossklein Infection Control range went through a complete redesign and rebrand. This helped establish its place as a premium quality high performance partner in the fight against disease.

In November 2023 Topdental made the difficult decision to completely close our direct to dentist operation Todpentaldirect.com and no longer supply products directly to the end user. This allowed us to focus 100% on what we do best – manufacturing medical device infection control products that we now only supply on a wholesale basis.

A new home

In August 2024 Topdental moved premises for the third time in its history. Our new home features a much larger dedicated production room with increased blending/mixing and warehouse capacity. It is vital for Topdental to control as much of the manufacturing process as possible, that starts from initial design and leads all the way through to shipping and export.

In house at this new site are sales, design, marketing, export, regulatory, labelling and research and development departments. These all ensure Topdental has every aspect of the production process covered and can react quickly to customer needs. This new facility will enable Topdental to increase production capacity and speed while maintaining the highest standards needed for clinical infection control manufacturing.

There have been many important milestones achieved throughout the business since it was incorporated back in 2001. Over this time, Topdental has moved from only supplying products that have been manufactured by others to end users in the UK, to the ground up design and manufacture of our very own unique, medical device infection control products and supplying / exporting all around the world.
